Privacy Policy

The short version: All your collection data stays on your device. We don't collect, sell, or share your personal information.

Overview

Crates ("the app") is a personal collection tracker for physical media and collectibles — movies, music, video games, and sports cards. It is developed by Alan Lopez as a single-developer indie app.

Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your device only using your device's built-in storage:

None of this data is transmitted to any server operated by us.

Data We Do Not Collect

Optional Backend Lookups

Crates can optionally connect to a backend API for enhanced features (live search results, pricing estimates, cover art). This is controlled by you in Settings → Backend API Base URL.

When a backend URL is configured, the app may send item metadata — such as a movie title, album name, artist, or player name — to retrieve search results or cover art. No personal information about you is ever transmitted.

When no backend URL is configured, the app works entirely offline.

Third-Party Image Sources

When backend lookups are enabled, cover art may be fetched from the following services using only item titles and years:

Data Deletion

If you delete the app, all locally stored data is deleted with it. We recommend using the JSON export feature (Settings → Export Backup) to back up your collection before uninstalling.

Children's Privacy

Crates does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is rated 4+ on the App Store and does not contain content directed at children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy as the app evolves. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
